Where to Find Free Electronics Recycling in Seattle

Did you know that only about 12% of electronic waste is recycled? This is a staggering statistic, considering how toxic electronic waste (aka “e-waste”) can be to the environment!

One reason why this statistic is so high is because many consumers don’t know that certain electronics are recyclable. Another reason is that, even if they do know how to recycle electronics, many people don’t know where to actually take their recyclable electronics.

But if you are a Seattle resident, we’re here to help! Here are a few free electronic recycling facilities near Seattle!

What electronics are recyclable in Seattle?

E-Cycle Washington is a free program that makes it easy for Seattleites to recycle electronics. They provide a helpful list of items that can be recycled at most e-waste facilities:

  • Desktop computers
  • Laptops
  • TV and computer monitors
  • Tablets
  • E-readers
  • Portable DVD players

Other facilities (not including E-Cycle Washington) accept what are called “peripheral” electronics (i.e. mostly electronic accessories) as well. These items include:

Tips Before Donating or Recycling Your Used Electronics

Before choosing to recycle your used electronics, we recommend considering the following tips:

  • For computers or laptops - Consider updating or upgrading your hardware or software, rather than replacing your computer completely
  • Destroy your data - Delete all personal information from your device, either by wiping it yourself or using a secure data destruction service
  • Remove batteries - Remove the batteries from your old devices, as these can often be recycled separately
